Environmental Education
The Centre offers courses on various topics covering different subjects including geography, science and history, which are related to the National Curriculum. It is a great place to study the use of energy, water or other resources. A large pond within the grounds of the Centre offers a safe environment for the study of freshwater life. There is a variety of habitats in the Local Nature Reserve with a wide range of wildflowers and associated wildlife. Courses can be run for schools, youth groups, university students and adult groups. Please contact us for more information.
Sustainable City Education Programme
The Sustainable City Education Programme aims to help York schools to reduce their carbon emissions and waste by 10%. This exciting project is funded by the City of York Council, the Local Area Agreement Fund (York Without Walls), Friends of St Nicholas Fields and York Rotters.
Follow the links below for the lesson plans for the six sessions. Please note these plans are for information only and cannot be effectively taught without the use of further resources, and are currently restricted to City of York Local Authority schools. If you are interested in knowing more about the project, please download our leaflet (436 PDF file) or contact the Sustainable City Education Officer Rachel Simpson at education@stnicksfields.org.uk or 01904 427641.
