Using the award-winning York Environment Centre as a base, our education programme covers a huge variety of topics on the theme of ‘sustainability’ – from pond dipping to wind farms, compost to food miles. Education visits will inspire, challenge and engage pupils with thought-provoking and enjoyable experiences that they will remember for many years to come. You can bring your school to St Nicks for the full experience of the nature reserve and York Environment Centre, or let us organise and lead a day to remember within your school. Courses can be run for schools, youth groups, university students and adult groups. Please see our Activities Brochure or contact us for more information.

The Sustainable City Education Programme aims to help York schools to reduce their carbon emissions and waste by 10%. This exciting project is funded by the City of York Council, the Local Area Agreement Fund (York Without Walls), Friends of St Nicholas Fields and York Rotters.

Follow the links below for the lesson plans for the six sessions. Please note these plans are for information only and cannot be effectively taught without the use of further resources, and are currently restricted to City of York Local Authority schools. If you are interested in knowing more about the project, please download our leaflet (436 PDF file) or contact the St Nicks Education Officer Rachel Bell at education@stnicksfields.org.uk or 01904 427641.
