Saturday 11th February: WILLOW ART & CRAFT WORKSHOP
10am-4pm at York Environment Centre
![]()
Help create a big willow bicycle sculpture, which will be part of a site specific community art installation for York Open Studios at St Nicks in March. During the workshop, experienced tutor Angela Cole will teach traditional willow weaving skills and how to apply them in new and creative ways. The community artists Belinda and Kalindi will be co-ordinating the sculpture making but you can use the opportunity to make your own piece of willow art to keep instead.
The theme of the workshop is ‘Freewheeling: cycling, recycling and regeneration.’ Using this theme of freedom and motion, basket bases will be transformed into wheels and cogs, or borders into wheel rims, in order to create the bicycle sculpture. Please book ahead, and bring sharp secateurs (if you have a pair) and outdoor wear.
Entry: £30 / £20 unwaged and St Nicks members (welcome to join on the day). Includes soup and bread for lunch.
