* Part-Time Volunteer Park Ranger
Salary – Unpaid (Expenses reimbursed)
Would you like to get a career in the environment sector but need to develop your skills and gain experience first?
As a Volunteer Park Ranger you will:
- Help maintain and manage St Nicholas Fields Local Nature Reserve,
- Carry out and log regular checks around the nature reserve, such as graffiti, paths and fallen branches.
- Work with other volunteers and staff to manage the site, this could involve leading a group to carry out practical conservation work and carrying out risk assessments.
- Help develop management plans for the site.
- Engage with users of the nature reserve.
In return we will:
- Provide a full induction, training programme and ongoing support – this could include identification skills, tool training, brush cutter course, local nature reserve management, health and safety and first aid training.
- Offer the chance to learn new skills and gain both practical conservation and leadership experience, which is vital for a career in this competitive sector.
- Provide the opportunity to network and find out about how an environmental charity runs including; funding, organising events, publicity, volunteer management and the development of nature reserve management plans.
- Provide references and help with future job applications.
- Be very grateful and provide as much tea and coffee you can drink!
No formal qualifications are needed, although an interest and enthusiasm for the environment and wildlife is essential.
Experience of practical conservation tasks and leading a group is desirable, but NOT essential.
The candidate must be reliable, friendly and able to use his or her own initiative.
The candidate will be expected to work at least 3 days a week for at least 6 months.
A full CRB check will be carried out.
