Monday 30th January: Big sunny birdwatch

Fourteen people took part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch on St Nicks and spotted 20 different bird species. It was a lovely sunny if chilly morning and you can read all about what we saw on our blog. Thanks to all who came along!

Wednesday 25th January: St Nicks is tweeting!

BullfinchWe have entered the land of Twitter at last - follow us @StNicksFields for little updates and invites to events. One of our first tweets was about this RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. We hope you will join us this Saturday at St Nicks or take part in your own garden.

St Nicks bird feeders have been very busy, with such charming guests as the Bullfinch pictured here (photo by Ian Traynor), so we should see a nice variety of birds on the day. The event will allow us to get records from different locations within the reserve and improve our knowledge of what tweets out there. St Nicks birds have a big appetite - please get in touch if you could help us keep the feeders topped up.

Friday 28th October: The biggest Pumpkin Evening yet!

Carved pumpkinsWednesday 26th October saw York Rotters' biggest Pumpkin Evening and winning pumpkin yet! We had around 80 people enjoying the pumpkin-filled night so some people were carving their pumpkin masterpieces outside as they wouldn't fit in the hall. We very quickly ran out of the delicious pumpkin soup but there was plenty of three kinds of pumpkin cake for everyone. The carving efforts resulted in 36 entries into the contest but there were only four entries into the Giant Pumpkin Contest. The winning Giant arrived at the last minute but - at over 24 stones - it was certainly worth waiting for. Please see our Gallery for more photos and come along next year!
