York Rotters is a growing network of volunteers who provide local, friendly advice and support both to people who already compost and those who want to begin. You can slim a rubbish bin contents by about a third by composting - this will both reduce the amount of rubbish sent into landfill and help your garden (or planters) at the same time. Between the launch of the scheme, in September 2004, and August 2008 we have advised over 6,000 residents through road shows, over the phone and home visits. On our web pages you can find advice on how to start composting, what kind of equipment is available and how you can make your own.
York Rotters is a partnership project between Friends of St Nicholas Fields and the City of York Council. If you are interested in getting involved, please see the Join Rotters page or contact Rotters officer for more information and composting advice.
